Role overview
To conduct an assessment that would support VSO to determine a future portfolio in West Africa in line with VSO’s global strategy, and identify areas of investment priority to grow VSO’s impact and influence within the region.

Skills, qualifications and experience

The consultant should have the following skills and experience:
* Experience working in the national/international aid environment and specific experience of developing funding strategies within the international development space
* Understanding of VSO’s thematic areas of education, health and resilient livelihoods as well as our core approaches (Social inclusion and gender, resilience and social accountability) and volunteering for development
* Demonstrated understanding of international aid environment and trends, with specific understanding of the development space in West Africa is essential
* Demonstrated experience in business development/resource mobilization/Fundraising
* Demonstrated experience in conducting development and/or market research with proven analytical, communication and report writing skills
* Conversance with regional, national socio-economic and political environmen t in West Africa is essential
* Good contacts and relationships with people working in donor agencies in West Africa

Qualifications required
* Educated to post-graduate degree level in international development-related discipline
* Over 10 years’ experience in international development
* Experience of living and working internationally (4+ years required)
* IT skills including fluency in Microsoft Office suite and data analysis packages
* Fluency in English (written and spoken). French (in addition) essential
